University of Brighton - FALMER

Year 12 Spanish students are invited to a twilight session at the University of Brighton to find out more about the Mexican festival of El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

In an introduction to studying languages at university, students will take part in a sample lecture about the festival, its origins and how it is celebrated in Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries. Participants will learn about the culture and beliefs underpinning the festival and will engage in discussions comparing Mexican notions of death and celebration with those of their own country. Useful target language vocabulary and phrases will be sent out in advance of the event so that students can aim to use them during the workshop.

Food and drink typically consumed during this celebration will also be provided.

The workshop is free and will run from 4.30-6.00pm.
