Wednesday 3rd July 2013 - The Business School, All Saints Campus, Manchester Metropolitan University
Due to the increasing importance of visual and media images, films and television have a great potential in the language classroom. Visual imagery is highly motivating and can be exploited successfully to improve the exploration of curriculum content and stimulate the development of oral and written communications skills in the foreign language. This INSET will offer basic training in visual literacy through the medium of short films, showing how these can be a useful tool to enhance language learning. Teachers will learn how to read films using textual analysis and other approaches, and will be introduced to a selection of foreign-language short films. This INSET will present a variety of strategies for using film successfully in language teaching at KS3, GCSE and A Level.
A resource pack will be included. The INSET is aimed at teachers of French, German, Italian and Mandarin, Spanish and Urdu and will offer specific sessions for each of these languages.
Cost: FREE
