The Language Resource Centre at Newcastle University has a small team in place, which will be available from Mid-January for virtual school visits, synchronous and asynchronous to promote language learning, and inter-cultural activities in line with the Routes into Languages aims. New in Durham!! Spanish Café opens its doors to everyone at the Gala Theatre

Routes into Languages is delighted to announce the launch of the Spanish Café at the Gala Theatre in Durham.

Modeled on the European Language Café initiative, the Spanish Café follows the success of the French Café created by Durham University with the support of the Gala Theatre.

You are cordially invited to join us to share our love of all things Hispanic in the bar area of the Gala Theatre from 6 till 8pm. There will also be an introduction to Pedro Almodovar's Broken Embraces (see the trailer here), which is shown at Gala at 8.30pm, after the Spanish Café.

Our programme:

From 6 till 8pm, come and practise your Spanish in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere at the Gala.

At 8.30, you can go and see Almodovar's Broken Embraces in the cinema at the Gala.
 

The Spanish Café will be a regular feature, so check this space for future events!

Goodbye Lenin!

For: AS/A2 Level

 

Using Wolfgang Becker’s Goodbye Lenin! (2003) (cert .15) as a focus text, this event addresses contemporary German culture and society. The film will also be used as a basis for speaking and listening exercises, discussion and role-play, providing loads of opportunities to get your students talking German!

 

Resources are provided for both pre-and post-event activities.

Tickets are £6.00 per student, with one teacher FREE for every ten students.

Italian Style offers pupils an exciting opportunity to meet two well-known Italian authors Paolo Nori and Daniele Benati. These authors will give readings from their most recent novels in the morning.

The afternoon will begin with a two hour taster session that will introduce pupils to Italian language and culture and also provide a languages talk on careers in translating, from and into all languages, not just Italian.

The taster session is followed by a talk by Franco Nasi, a writer and translator into Italian of many famous English authors. Both Nori and Benati also work as translators and will be able to provide additional insight into translating as a career.

Visit Northumbria University campus in Newcastle upon Tyne and work with students and staff to get a feel of languages at university.

There are four sessions: a Q & A session with student ambassadors, an on-line quiz, and two tasters from Chinese, Italian, and Portuguese.

Each school may bring up to 30 pupils.
