Yr 12/13 Languages Day
The University of the West of England is holding a Languages Day for Year 12 & 13 students in the region who are currently studying French, Spanish or German at AS level (or equivalent).
The Languages Day will take place on Tuesday 11 January 2011 and feature French, Spanish and German sessions which will focus on themes which reflect the specialist research areas of UWE's academic staff and of guest speakers. Where possible these themes will tie with in with current A level topic areas. There will also be a plenary talk on studying languages at university and taster sessions in different languages.

MFL Speaking Competition
Routes into Languages SW is supporting MFL Speaking Competitions in various parts of the region.
The competition is open to students of secondary age from any SW school and will provide an opportunity for students to use their foreign language out of the classroom. The competition will run in two categories: Non-native speakers and Near-native speakers. Students may present in either French, German or Spanish.
The format of each event will be as follows (times may vary):
10:00 Arrival and Registration
10:30 KS3 – 1-2 minute presentation on “My Family” or “My Hobbies”
Near native speaker category (all levels)
12:00 Lunch
1:00 KS4 – 2 minute presentation on “My Holiday” or “A Film I Enjoyed”
KS5 – 3 minute presentation on “My Dream”
2.30 Judging
3.00 Results and Award of Prizes

2-day French, Spanish and German Intensive Course (Year 11)
The University of the West of England is proposing to run a three-day intensive course in July for Year 11 students who are intending to start an AS course in September 2010, the aim being to ease the transition from GCSE to AS and A level work. The course will be based on communicative grammar and an introduction to the sorts of topics they will be dealing with in their post 16 courses. The course will run in French, Spanish and German.

Year 11-12 Languages Day
We are holding a Languages Day for Years 11 and 12 students in the region who are currently studying French, Spanish or German at AS level (or equivalent).
