This event offers sessions for Year 12 and Year 13 studying French and/or Spanish. Sessions are taught by expert MMU staff and current students will be on hand to offer support and insight into studying a Languages degree. Please find programme below. It is essential that schools complete a session request form upon booking to ensure we can prepare rooms. Please don't send session request forms until you have purchased places.

Students can attend a mixture of French/Spanish sessions however please let us know in advance via the session request form.

Before the screening of Ballon there will be an introduction to the film which will include some political, historical and geographical contextual information. After the film we will talk about some of the key themes of the film (as much of the session as possible will be in German).

Led by Maggie Hoffgen, Freelance Film Lecturer.

This study morning will look at themes including pre-adolescence, friendship, family life, marital separation, sexual diversity and freedom, justice, prejudice and references to the historical background in contemporary Chile.

Carmen Herrero will introduce the film in English providing contextual information and key Spanish vocab. The screening will be followed by language exercises based around the film plus a discussion relating to; the characters of the film; the narrative; intercultural differences; film genre conventions and style.

This study day examines the themes of the film (family, migration, social exclusion and solidarity) and how film can raise these important issues within society.

Isabelle Vanderschelden will introduce the film in French. Students will be provided with information about the director, the actors, the social and political context of the film.  The genre conventions used in the film will also be highlighted. A few short exercises will provide key vocabulary. All students receive a workbook which they can keep.

In the afternoon there will be a series of language exercises in French, focusing on the films main characters, plot development and themes. Film genres (such as psychological and social realism) and visual style will also be referenced.

One objective of the day is to enhance the students’ intercultural awareness.

This study morning will include a screening of the film El Futuro Perfecto. The film will be introduced in Spanish, key vocabulary and contextual information will be provided. The screening will be followed after lunch by a series of Spanish exercises based on the film, including character studies, film genre analysis and discussion of the main themes (family, relationships, migration, language learning and multilingualism).
