This is an interactive mini-lecture (in PowerPoint) El Ave: la modernización del transporte ferroviario (The Spanish high speed train: modernisation of rail transport) that includes illustrations and maps. It is written in simple Spanish and, in order to cater for the different levels of ability, can be delivered either in Spanish, with some spoken English explanations to re-cap on different sections in the lecture, or in Spanish with a spoken English translation of each point, as well as some recapping and questions.
The session is planned to be accessible at the same time as giving an insight into what it would be like to study Spanish in first year undergraduate program. It hopes to encourage students and consider the beneifts of continuing to study languages.
It is a particularly good opportunity to engage with the language for beginners of Spanish, such as Year 12 IB Ab Initio students. However, it is also an effective exercise for GCSE and A-level students in terms of reading and listening language skills.
