Working collaboratively with MFL tutors from Canterbury Christ Church University and teachers, Y10 language students will explore ways to integrate their language learning with learning in another curriculum area.
Over the course of a mini project, pupils will first experience and then prepare integrated learning resources ready to demonstrate and share with peers. The challenge is to engage pupils in meaningful ways to utilise, share and enhance their language skills with others; learning for pupils by pupils. Participant classes are invited from contrasting schools (eg high school, academy, grammar).
In addition, each class will be encouraged to work with a different target language, and curriculum area, to maximise the range of resultant materials. Participating pupils will be encouraged to reflect on the learning experience, sharing their ideas regarding presenting and learning languages in an integrated way, thereby actively joining the field of debate:
- How do pupils respond to language learning presented in an integrated way? Why? What factors appear to affect this?
- How beneficial is it for their TL learning and their learning in the other subject?
- Are some pupils better equipped / prepared than others to decode / deconstruct learning material presented in a language other than their own TL?
