Have you (or your pupils) ever wondered about a career in translation? Are you curious about what being an interpreter might entail?
Routes into Languages are delighted to invite Key Stage 4, sixth-form, undergraduate and postgraduate students from across the region and beyond to Meet the Translators and Interpreters on Wednesday 10th February, hosted in collaboration with the School of Modern Languages at Newcastle University.
The day will begin with keynote presentations from Directors of the National Networks for Interpreting and Translation, Helen Campbell and Professor Myriam Salama-Carr, and from Brian Fox, Directorate-General for Interpretation at the European Commission. Following a free lunch, participants will split into small groups to take part in a series of three Q&A sessions with translators and interpreters from a diverse range of fields during the afternoon. Please see below for a full programme.
With valuable networking potential, this is an opportunity not to be missed for current university students interested in pursuing a career in translation or interpreting, whilst for schoolteachers, this is a great chance to raise pupils’ awareness and aspirations regarding their potential future options should they continue to study languages.
Represented at the event will be:
* National Network for Interpreting * National Network for Translation * European Commission* Ebiquity * Everyday Language Solutions * T&I freelancers * Newcastle University School of Modern Languages tutors and current students of T&I courses *
