On 17th July, 1936, the Spanish Civil War broke out. Amidst fierce fighting between fascist, Republican and left wing groups, and after the bombing of Gernika by German planes almost a year later, the Basque Government took the decision to evacuate thousands of Basque children to host countries all over the world. 3,861 came to the UK. This event tells their story, and in doing so, the stories of countless others, who today continue to seek refuge from war or persecution.
This event will benefit students of AS and A level Spanish, and students of AS and A Level German, English, Politics, History and General Studies.
