Language Ambassadors' Mentoring Scheme in schools

Date:
Thursday, 1 November, 2012 - 00:00 to Sunday, 30 June, 2013 - 00:00
Event Type:
Workshop
Region:
South West
Location:
selected schools in the South West

We are pleased to confirm that we'll continue our language ambassadors' mentoring scheme at schools this year. Our undergraduate students from 5 partner universities (UWE, Bristol, Bath, Exeter and Plymouth), some of whom are native French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian and Mandarin Chinese speakers, come into schools for a maximum of 6 hours per week and work alongside the class teacher providing support during MFL lessons. In the case of the native speakers, they could be used almost as FLAs, whilst the undergraduate students could support individual pupils on a one-to-one basis or work with small groups. All the students will have received appropriate training and will have been CRB checked.

* This activity is offered to selected schools in the South West due to financial constraints *

Event Type:
Workshop
Region:
South West
Location:
University of the West of England

Routes into Languages SW is delighted to offer secondary schools an exciting opportunity to take part in the new initiative -- Bristol French Drama Festival, which will take place on Saturday 16th March 2013 at the University of the West of England.

You can learn to run a French theatre club for your pupils, culminating with a fun performance for all! Pupils will perform a piece prepared in their drama club and share it with other participants, friends and families!

The training workshop for French teachers is aimed at running a theatre club at your school to participate in the festival in March and will give you numerous ideas on how to develop such a club. You and the pupils will then have 5 months to prepare a short piece, which they will perform on stage on Saturday 16th March. (There may be the opportunity for subsequent informal meetings in between.)

The training workshop for French teachers will be held on Friday 19th October at the University of the West of England at 4.30 - 6.30 pm.

Cost: £20 per teacher

Please note that this session is not suitable for French assistants. The training workshop for French assistants will be held earlier on the same day (at 1.30 - 4 pm).

Summer School (Yr 11 & 12)

Date:
Thursday, 19 July, 2012 - 00:00
Event Type:
Conference
Region:
South West
Location:
Plymouth Business School

Routes SW is suporting a residential Summer School for Year 11 & 12 students run by Plymouth University.

Every morning students can opt for a workshop of their choices, such as Health and Safety, Marketing, Modern Foreign Languages and others. The sessions on MFL are run by language students ambassadors whose aim is to widen the pupils'  horizons and show them what can be achieved with languages. It is very aspirational and is meant to enthuse pupils about foreign cultures and foreign languages -- an interactive language and culture awareness raising session.
